JOSEPH R. SHAYA
Joseph R. Shaya is founder and General Partner of Meritage Consulting Group (formerly known as J.R. Shaya & Associates, LLP). He founded the firm in 1979 as a contract sales and marketing firm for the telecommunications industry. In 1984, FSLIC retained the firm to value and sell all non-banking assets of two failed Savings and Loans. As a result of that experience, the main focus of the firm changed to working with troubled companies worldwide. Mr. Shaya has worked in telecommunications, biotechnology, banking, high technology, financial and business services industries with companies ranging in size from $2 to $250 million.
Some of Mr. Shaya's extensive experience includes: negotiating (including litigation workout, Intellectual Property, asset sales, asset purchases, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory issues), interim management, reducing cash burn, evaluation of human capital, compensation plans, benchmarking, designing Chapter 11 plans of reorganization, and raising capital for turnarounds. He has served as CEO, COO and General Manager for a number of companies. His hands-on style allows him to successfully resolve complex problems.
Prior to founding Meritage, Mr. Shaya served various sales management capacities on the regional and national level for 3M Company and for RCA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Denver and a Masters in Foreign Trade from Thunderbird Graduate School for International Management. Mr. Shaya sits on the Board of the Turnaround Management Association. He also serves as a Board member and an Advisory Board member for various other companies.
ALISON M. SHAYA
Alison Shaya is a Partner at Meritage Consulting Group. She joined Meritage Consulting Group in 1993. Prior to joining Meritage, Alison served as a senior sales, marketing and operations executive for the telecommunications industry where the strategy for growth was through mergers and acquisitions. Her background in mergers and acquisitions complements the Meritage team.
Ms. Shaya has extensive experience in consulting on business repositioning from an operational and human capital perspective within a variety of industries. Alison's experience spans start-up to Fortune 100 companies from North America and Europe. She has been involved with analysis and repositioning of companies in the biotechnology, telecommunications, financial services and high tech industries. Since joining Meritage, Alison has worked with clients in the areas of: turnaround management, due diligence, operational efficiency, quality management, sales and margin improvement strategies, distribution management, asset sales, and implementation of best practices.
Alison's philosophy of repositioning is to work from the inside out: she evaluates the operational staff and management of a company then compares the internal perception to that of customers and competitors. Her evaluative style leads to a fully integrated plan of action for each client. Her extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, from the buy side and the sell side, give her a unique perspective in strategic repositioning.
Alison holds a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business Administration from the University of Denver. A Colorado native, Alison serves on the Board of Directors for the Council of Growing Companies. She is also involved with the Turnaround Management Association, the Colorado Technology Incubator, and volunteers for a number of non-profit organizations in the Denver area.
